“Life is much more manageable when thought of as a scavenger hunt as opposed to a surprise party.” ~ Jimmy Buffet
Considering the most recent political events, I dare say the majority of the world received quite the surprise with Trump being voted into office. It’s easy to take sides on the issue and make fearful predictions of the future, but in all honesty, nobody will know what this means until we experience it. Might as well choose peace in the present, and be willing to discover the healing potentialities being offered--in every situation.
“The true hero is one who conquers his own anger and hatred.” ~ Dalai Lama
If there’s anything I’ve learned from history, I could fight and win a thousand battles, but a man at war with himself will never find peace. This is why I find the line “Love your enemies” to be appropriately misleading, as it starts you on a path of compassion towards others, but must end with you forgiving yourself.
"To have faith is to trust yourself to the water. When you swim you don't grab hold of the water, because if you do you will sink and drown. Instead you relax, and float." ~ Alan Watts
Don’t ‘grab’ the Love that is all around me; do not ‘grab’ the ‘security an idea of God might offer; do not ‘grab’ ‘other’ but sink into the Self, the perfect buoyant Self I am.
"Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you. You must travel it by yourself. It is not far. It is within reach. Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know. Perhaps it is everywhere - on water and land." ~ Walt Whitman
There has to be an ‘I’ within that says, sooner or later, “there has to be a better way”. That 'way' is within. Once I recognize and accept that the journey is an inner exploration of the Truth I lose the addictive, victim, craving to look outside in the hope that you will finally rescue me, or that you will finally apologize for what you did to me and finally make it all right. It is up to me. But the ‘me’ is not the small ‘me’, that Me is the unconditionally loving, immensely powerful Self within.
“God is a pure no-thing, concealed in now and here; the less you reach for him, the more he will appear.” ~ Angelus Silesius
Perhaps it is not a matter of searching but of joyful acceptance. To accept that God, the pure no-thing, is the essence of all I see is to cease the search.
“We stigmatize mistakes. And we’re now running national educational systems where mistakes are the worst thing you can make-- and the result is that we are educating people out of their creative capacities.” ~ Ken Robinson
So true. Underlying the acknowledgement of a mistake is the notion that “I am wrong”, which no prideful ego likes to accept, because with that comes doubt and insecurity. Yet a meaningful life and inner growth does not come from playing it safe, but by pushing out beyond one’s comfort zones to the realm of the unknown--or possibilities--where creativity resides. The vast majority of society’s revolutionary discoveries came about from a mistake.
