I choose my reality: Perception is just my way of seeing things – it is not the truth. The healing circle is the best place to learn that everyone “sees” according to their own past. I can make a shift in perception and see in a different way.
I choose my reaction to my fears: My fears can be very different from those of others in the group, because I made them up. Is it only their fears that don’t make sense?
I choose my feelings: Based on my thinking I can choose love or fear.
I choose my distraction and my focus: Each individual can have his or her unique symptom of escape. Alcohol, drugs, shopping: they all serve the same purpose in the end. I can choose my purpose and meaning.
I choose to attack or defend: Some people act the bully, while others act the victim; both are created from a false idea of self.
I choose the experience of loss: Loss is a feeling that I create.
I choose relationships that are not based on the past: The relationships that I have in the circle are representative of all of my relationships. I brought them with me to this healing environment. Conflict is a choice I no longer want.
I choose to trust: Is the universe a friendly place or do I need to be careful, cautious and suspicious? I will learn to share authentically and feel free from judgement.
We can change our minds and thereby change our reality.
We provide little in the form of outside entertainment. No TV, no ipods with headsets, etc. We do not provide a neverending stream of activities for distraction. By the conclusion of the program the participants realize that being bored is a choice, a sign that the mind is not appreciated as a source of richness and expression.

Eight in-patient addiction treatment centers, and 4 long-term out-patient programs later- I was desperate. I could get sober I just could not stay sober. Over $165,000.00 was spent searching for the answer. Each treatment center was staffed by well-meaning conventionally trained counselors and psychologists. The Choose Again approach is lovingly, gently, radically different. They teach that all situations are for my learning and healing, and that what I need to change is my negative beliefs about myself. My self-hatred fueled my needle use – my self-love fuels my recovery. - Dan
