Choose Again Attitudinal Healing Center in Costa Rica

Canadian Professional Counsellors Association Certification

Our counselor training program prepares you to become a member of the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association and a member of our staff at Choose Again.

ACIM Based Psychotherapy

The course consists of 500 hours on-site practical training. You will start in the healing circles in Costa Rica as a client and evolve into the role of helper/counselor. This phase of the program takes place in Costa Rica where the prospective RPC’s live and work for a minimum of three months. During this time you are not only intensively engaged in your own healing but are immersed in group work. A significant portion of the personal growth work will be in the role of co-facilitator in supervised group processes as well as 60 hours of clinically supervised one-on-one or family/couples counseling. These hours may be congruent or split up into several parts to accommodate the student.

Clients

The range of clients you will interact with therapeutically will give you a clear idea of where your strengths lie and what type of client you might meet in your future practice. At the center we are presented with a wide variety of client symptoms and issues from addictions to chronic anxiety, from depression to eating disorders as well as marital and family counseling.

Academic Phase

This phase prepares you to write the exam for the CPCA certificate. It is theory and skill based. Here the study and reading will focus on the many theories of psychotherapy, the techniques used by different schools of counseling, clinical assessment and ethics and boundaries of all practitioners in Canada. There are several assignments that can be done on-line or at group sessions in Vancouver. This portion of the program may be done at the same time as the practicum, before or after.
